Sludge & Odor Treatment

Managing the increasing sludge volumes generated by municipal and industrial water and wastewater treatment processes is a major environmental challenge for municipalities worldwide.

Your sludge, Our resource

At Veolia Water Solutions & Technologies, we see sludge not as a waste but as a potentially valuable resource.

We apply our global technological leadership to help municipal clients extract valuable biosolids and produce agriculturally-beneficial byproducts. By converting sludge into energy, we help offset wastewater treatment plant operation costs.

Our designs minimize sludge generation in the initial phases of water treatment. For sludge that remains after recovery, we minimize weight and volume and remove harmful substances prior to disposal. Our sustainable treatment solutions meet rigorous health and environmental standards.

In order to deal with these increasing volumes, VWS China's strategy is to produce sludge:

  • of a higher quality
  • in smaller quantities
  • that is safer

Odor Treatment

Veolia Water Solutions & Technologies has invested years of R&D to develop odor-free treatment plants that are acceptable both for those who work in them and those who live in their vicinity.

Municipal wastewaters generate foul smelling by-products that constitute a form of pollution.

These by-products are essentially made up of compounds containing :

  • nitrogen (in particular ammonia and amine) ;
  • sulphur (hydrogen sulphide, mercaptan) .

Physical-chemical and biological techniques are used to remove them.

In far less quantities, organic compounds such as aldehydes, cetanes and hydrocarbons are also found in industrial gas.
